Beginner Cohort · Identity Jiu-Jitsu · Seattle

10 people start together. No experience needed.

The beginner cohort is Identity's structured on-ramp to jiu-jitsu — capped at 12, one cohort per month, built for people who've never trained a day in their life.

Join the May Cohort Or bring a friend — $300 for two.

The cohort is not a drop-in class.

It's a closed group of 10–12 people who start on the same date and complete the program together. That means you're never the only new person in the room. Everyone around you is figuring it out at the same pace you are.

8 classes total. One cohort opens per month. Enrollment caps at 12 — after that, the waitlist opens for the following month.

Questions beginners always have.

I'm not athletic. Can I still do this?

Yes. Jiu-jitsu is a technique game, not a fitness game — and the cohort is explicitly designed for people starting from zero. If you can get yourself to the gym, you're qualified.

What happens if I miss a class?

Life happens. We'll make sure you know what was covered so you don't fall behind. Missing one class won't leave you lost.

Is jiu-jitsu dangerous?

The cohort is structured specifically to minimize injury risk for beginners. Instructors set the pace, no one is pushed beyond their level, and partners are matched thoughtfully within the group.

What do I need to bring or wear?

Comfortable athletic clothes — shorts and a t-shirt or rash guard. We'll tell you everything else when you sign up.

What happens after the 8 classes?

Most people keep going. We'll talk through your options before the cohort ends — no pressure, no hard sell, just a conversation about what works for you.

Can I get a refund if the cohort isn't right for me?

Talk to us. We handle these case by case. We'd rather have a conversation than a bad experience.
