The Identity Jiu-Jitsu mat — Japandi-inspired space in Seattle's International District

We're not just a gym. We're the first.

Identity Jiu-Jitsu is Seattle's International District's first and only BJJ club. We didn't choose this neighborhood because it was convenient — we chose it because it's ours.

Under new ownership, we're building something that belongs to this community: a principled coaching environment, a culture where everyone feels like they've already been here for years — and a scholarship mission built into how we operate.

For the first three months of our cohort program, 50% of every sign-up goes toward funding jiu-jitsu for youth in South Seattle who can't afford it.

Coaching that holds up under pressure.

Identity is coached using the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA) — a sports science methodology where you learn by solving real problems through games, not memorizing drills. Skills built under pressure hold under pressure.

The same framework behind Standard Jiu-Jitsu in Rockville, Maryland. Running here in Seattle.

Drop-Ins

Visiting Seattle and want to train? DM us on Instagram to arrange a drop-in — one class or a few.

The most transit-accessible gym in Seattle. Period.

We're four blocks from the International District / Chinatown light rail station — and with the opening of Line 2, every corner of the metro is connected. Northgate, Bellevue, Lynnwood, Federal Way — one seat to our door.

No car? No problem. No gym in the Seattle metro can say what we can: if you can reach a bus, a train, or a streetcar, you can reach our mat.

Light Rail

4-block walk from International District station — Lines 1 & 2

Bus

Multiple King County Metro routes stop within blocks of our door

Streetcar & Sounder

First Hill Streetcar and Sounder commuter rail — all within reach

Common questions, straight answers.

Do I need any experience to join the cohort?

None at all. The cohort is designed for people on day one — that's the whole point. You won't be the only beginner in the room.

What do I wear or bring?

Just yourself. We'll walk you through everything on your first day. Comfortable athletic clothes are fine to start — shorts and a t-shirt or rash guard.

Is it safe? I'm worried about getting hurt.

Safety is the first rule at Identity. Instructors set the pace and no one is pushed beyond their level. The cohort format means you're always working with people at the same stage as you.

What happens after the 8 classes?

Most people keep going. We'll talk through your options before the cohort ends — no pressure, no hard sell, just a conversation about what works for you.

I'm not athletic. Can I still do this?

Yes. Jiu-jitsu is a technique game, not a fitness game — and the cohort is explicitly designed for people starting from zero. If you can get yourself to the gym, you're qualified.

Do you allow drop-ins?

Absolutely. Whether you're visiting Seattle for work or just want to check us out, DM us on Instagram to arrange a drop-in. One class or a few — we'll make it work.
